After judgement on June 21st, Air France lost against passenger after cancelling his return ticket because he did not board the first flight. Air France will have to refund the ticket the passenger had to buy. The company must also pay 500€ for moral damage and 800€ for defense costs.
This situation happens when a passenger cancels or does not show up at the outbound flight, companies tend to cancel the return flight booking at the same time. In this case, the lawyer had argued that this practice was “contrary to the general conditions of sale, which provide for the application of an additional cost, but in no case for the outright cancellation of the return ticket”.
This was not the first case for Air France, in 2017, it was obliged to refund the tickets of passengers and give them a compensation for moral damage. This practice might end as multiple European associations for passenger rights have complained in 2018.
