Germanwings is a European airline, operating since 2002. Its is based in Cologne in Germany. Their website is accessible at this link. Germanwings GmbH is a German low-cost airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa. Germanwings operated independently until October 2015, when a merger with its sister company Eurowings was started. The merger was completed in early 2016. The Germanwings brand has not been used since then, although the actual airline continues to operate under the Eurowings brand using Germanwings flight numbers. Germanwings flies to 110 destinations in Germany, Europe and North Africa. These include mainly tourist destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Antalya, Barcelona or London Heathrow. In 2014 the airline employed hardly more than 2000 people. In 2013 the Germanwings carried approx. 16 million passengers.
